Matt Reeves To Meet James Gunn To Discuss The Future Of ‘The Batverse’

Matt Reeves to meet with James Gunn very soon to outline the future of "The Batverse" which involves multiple sequels, and TV shows.

The first film in Reeves’ BatVerse, starring Robert Pattinson as Batman, opened last year to rave reviews and over $770 million at the box office globally. The continuity will carry on with a Penguin series starring Colin Farrell on HBO Max and a “The Batman” sequel starring Robert Pattinson.

In an interview with Collider, Matt Reeves announced that he will soon be meeting with new DC Studio chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran to discuss their revamped DC Universe and his ongoing BatVerse. The objective is to keep the two worlds separate and distinct from one another. We all want to be there for each other,” Reeves said.

The new DC Universe formed by Gunn and Safran has yet to be fully planned out. The two are working on a 10-year strategy for a shared cinematic, television, and gaming universe. This month, Gunn and Safran will likely pitch their idea to Warner Bros. execs, and announce the slate to the fans.

When asked about Gunn and Safran’s support for his BatVerse, Reeves told Collider that they “have been great.” “We’re actually supposed to meet in the next few weeks because they want to talk to me about the broad plan, and then they want to hear the BatVerse plan,” the director added. “We’re just getting together to talk about all of that.”

Matt Reeves continued, “Look, I’m excited to hear what they’re going to accomplish. Like James and Peter have both indicated, the BatVerse thing is its own thing they’re letting us do.

With “that’s part of what I’m going to be talking to them about in a few weeks,” Reeves said of his vision for the BatVerse, “we don’t want to be crashing into each other.” He continued, “They’re going to be talking to me about what they’re doing in their 10-year plan or certainly what’s in the near future as well so that we can understand that we’re not — it’s air traffic control — we don’t want to be crashing into each other. We want to support each other. I’m super excited. I’m really excited to hear about what they’re doing and to be working with them. It’s going to be cool.”

You can watch “The Batman” on HBO Max right now.
