Let’s set the record straight. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Reeves, the director of The Batman, stated that he intends to bring his own unique view of Batman’s character to the film. However, he did not confirm or deny The Batman’s inclusion in the DC Extended Universe. Therefore, it is not really necessary to ask the question, “What Movies to watch before The Batman?”. But!
Is The Batman in the DCEU? Matt responds
Matt Reeves commented, “When they (Studios) approached me, what they said was look, it’s standalone. This isn’t part of the Extended Universe”. Now you know. This statement by itself takes Batman out of the DCEU. As in, you don’t need to see any other DCEU movies to enjoy The Batman Movie. If you’re a fan of Batman, you’ve already got a good reason to see this movie. BUT… there’s a catch!
Will The Batman Be Part Of The DCEU?
While Matt Reeves has said The Batman isn’t part of the DC Extended Universe, that doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. You never really know what these corporate studios are going to do in the future as they tend to get sucked into the financial side of things, and I would not be surprised if they eventually include The Batman in DCEU. All that being said, there’s a possibility that Robert Pattinson’s Batman might have a part to play in future DCEU films, as Pattinson himself expressed that he has ideas about where his character would go if any plans to include his character in future installments. Further, he says, “I’ve made a kind of map for where Bruce’s psychology would grow over two more movies, I would love to do it.”
Contrary to that, The Batman Producer Dylan Clark told Empire (via Slashfilm) that there is no connection between this new film and The Flash at all. He also added “Warner Bros. has a multiverse where they’re exploring different ways to use the character. We don’t get involved in that. Matt is interested in pushing this character to his emotional depths and shaking him to his core”.
After listening to what Pattinson and Dylan Clark both said, the prospect of Robert’s Batman being in future DCEU installments is in the grey area, which makes it fair to watch the DC movies from the beginning and explore what each character is up to.
