Star Wars Order – What is the Best Order to Watch Star Wars Movies
Star wars is one of the biggest and nostalgic franchises of all-time. This was all started in the year (1977) and still ongoing in 2020. There are lot of people who have been inspired from starwars movies and made movies. In fact, Starwar’s first movie had become the highest-grossing movie in the ’70s. So, you could understand how star wars is gonna be. It’s nostalgic for those people who had watched star wars original trilogy in the ’70s and embraced it in the theatres. Unfortunately, it’s sad that we couldn’t get a chance to watch these epic cinemas. However, there would be some flaws from prequel Star Wars movies. So far, no star wars movie has surpassed the essence of original star wars trilogy which is deemed to be the best part of the star wars franchise. But, nonetheless, star wars still have it’s a tremendous impact and admired by a lot of cinema lovers.
For the reason, recently Disney has introduced its own streaming platform called disney+ where you could watch their content at the home. Amongst, you could also enjoy star wars content as well. So, why don’t you start watching star wars movies when you’re getting it on your mobile? Yeah, probably you might be asking in what order should you watch?
Meanwhile, there are lots of viewing orders for the star wars franchise. It depends on your preference. To interpret, first type of people like to watch in release order, second type of people prefer the timeline. While third type of people follows some sort of recommended order. Though, let’s explore what first people would like.
Let’ see dive into the star wars movies in the release order :
- Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)
- Star Wars Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
- Star Wars Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)
- Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999)
- Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002)
- Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005)
- Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015)
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
- Star Wars Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017)
- Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
- Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
If you’re the person who would like to view these movies as per the theatrical release. This is it, as far as my knowledge goes, most of the people prefer release date order to view as how the director wants us to watch them.
You might get confused seeing those episodes numbers being switched. To interpret in a nutshell, A New Hope starts with the first order trying to exterminate planets in order to gain the dominion over the galaxy which will be ended with Return of the Jedi. Whereas, episode 1 – episode iii, are all about how everything had started and the origin of the characters that will lead up to A new hope. However, talking about the force awakens, it takes place after a long period. Amongst movies, you’ll see some spin-offs and eventually leads up to The Rise of Skywalker. Though, it’s a great viewing order if you’re considering this line unless you realize there is the best viewing order which I’ll talk in a min.
In the meantime, we also have to talk about second type people who would like to watch movies as per their timeline which we call Chronological Order. So if you’re among them.
Let’s see Starwars movies in Chronological Order :
- Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace
- Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones
- Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
- Solo: A Star Wars Story ( takes place after a long time )
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
- Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope
- Star Wars Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back
- Star Wars Episode VI – Return of the Jedi
- Star Wars Episode VII – The Force Awakens -( takes place after a long period )
- Star Wars Episode VIII – The Last Jedi
- Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker
So, as you all can see the list as per the timeline, you can easily understand this order if you’re following it. However, there might be a chance that you’d get impatient that makes you want to watch the best part of the star wars franchise. Especially, in chronological order, it would be confusing for those people when you watch Solo: A Star Wars Story and later watch new hope. You wouldn’t get the character arcs since the cast is different. So, it would be far better when you watch movies as what I’m gonna tell you right now.
What is the Best Order to Watch Star Wars Movies?
If you’re the third type people. You might be wondering what is the best viewing order of star wars movies. Actually I didn’t muddle up the movies, instead, I did a little change in the position that gives you both satisfaction and also will not be confusing. This order is just sort of mixed up with chronological and release date order. So, you could also call this ( Chrono-Release Order ) which the same I think would be the best order to watch star wars movies.
( I sketched out this order as of my experience. I think this will be a perfect order to watch Starwars )
Episode I – The Phantom Menace ( 6.5 IMDb )
Episode II – Attack of the Clones ( 6.5 IMDb )
Episode III – Revenge of the Sith ( 7.5 IMDb )
Episode IV – A New Hope ( 8.6 IMDb )
Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back ( 8.7 IMDb )
Episode VI – Return of the Jedi ( 8.3 IMDb )
Episode VII – The Force Awakens ( 7.9 IMDb )
Rogue One – A Star Wars Story ( 7.8 IMDb )
Episode VIII – The Last Jedi ( 7.0 IMDb )
Solo – A Star Wars Story ( 6.9 IMDb )
Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker ( 6.7 IMDb )
Trust me, this is the best viewing order of star wars movies. I just switched prequel series to opening and later original series. That’s the change needed to be done.
The primary reason why I switched because first of all you’ll get a complete idea of what’s happening in the screen and will be more curious and excited to watch star wars a new hope after finishing prequel series. Meanwhile, when it comes to release date order, you wouldn’t know what’s happening at first, it’s like you have to adapt to events happening. But if you start with prequel trilogy and go to the original trilogy, that’s the best way to watch these amazing movies. Contrasting with Chronological Order, it’s sort of same only at the beginning which after I tweaked the order line to make elaborate and still keep up with release order like how the director wants us to watch.
Although, this is the perfect and best order to watch star wars movies. All you now should do is watch movies as per this order and I’ll assure you would enjoy watching them.
