Avatar: The Way of Water by James Cameron is a triumph! Yes, it has surpassed Spider-Man: No Way Home’s massive worldwide box office takings to become the top film of the post-Covid era. To top it all off, it has become the sixth highest-grossing movie ever. Let’s take a peek at the magnum opus’s earnings to date as it continues to bring in new records.
Avatar: The Way of Water, which was released on December 16 and has just finished its first month in theatres, has raked in a respectable sum at the box office. The film has now grossed over $1.9 billion worldwide. James Cameron is about to make history by becoming the first director to make three $2 billion blockbusters.
Deadline reports that Avatar 2 has now earned $1.928 billion worldwide, surpassing the $1.921 billion total of Spider-Man: No Way Home. As of right now, it ranks as the highest-grossing film since the epidemic and the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time. It’s on track to break $2 billion, putting it ahead of Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.069 billion).
As Avatar 2 nears the $2 billion milestone at the international box office, James Cameron has noted that the film serves as a reminder that viewers still value the cinematic experience despite the prevalence of streaming services.

Cameron discussed his thoughts on the Avatar sequel’s massive success at the box office with ‘Variety’ during the Golden Globes’ Official Digital Pre-Show.
“In my head, we’re returning to theatres all around the world. Even with this massive increase in Covids, they are returning to Chinese theatres. Collectively, we’re saying, “We need this!” There is a dire necessity for us to visit theatres. Quit streaming already! Cameron said, “I’m tired of sitting on my a*s,” and the phrase stuck.
The release date for Avatar 3 is set for December 2024.
