Elon Musk Increases Twitter Blue’s Price For iPhone Users From $8 To $11

Elon Musk has announced that he will increase the price of the Twitter Blue membership service with verification from $8 to $11 for iPhone users. This is in addition to Apple’s 30% cut of profits from iOS apps on its App Store.

The microblogging service reportedly told certain employees about the impending price changes for the premium Twitter Blue tier, as reported by TheInformation.

The report quotes unnamed sources as saying that company executives are considering charging $8 for Blue service for Twitter on the web and $11 via the iOS app on iPhones.

When Musk’s Blue subscription plan with verification was released last month, it was met with widespread backlash due to the prevalence of false accounts posing as well-known brands and celebrities.

Musk stated that the microblogging platform will relaunch its $8 Blue subscription service with verification on November 29, this time more “rock solid,” but postponed the launch to avoid Apple’s 30% share of App Store sales.

Musk has spoken out against the App Store fee reduction, dubbing it a “hidden 30% tax on the Internet.”

Twitter ads from Apple have been cut back significantly. “Do they despise the right to free speech in the United States?” According to his post, “Apple has also threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store, but won’t tell us why.”

Musk announced earlier this month that Apple “completely restarted” advertising on Twitter.

Following his discussion with Apple CEO Tim Cook, Elon Musk stated that the two of them had “settled” any misunderstandings around the possibility of the micro-blogging platform being removed from the App Store.

“Good conversation. Among other things, we resolved the misunderstanding about Twitter potentially being removed from the App Store. Tim was clear that Apple never considered doing so,” the Twitter CEO said.

Update: Twitter officially announced the change

“We’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday – subscribe on the web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark,” the company said in a tweet on Saturday.
