Both Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, who play Deadpool and Wolverine, have made it public that they will be teaming up for Deadpool 3, and the news has been out for a while. While it garnered hype in the community, s ome Marvel fans are still concerned that it would disrupt the character arc of Wolverine, considering the character’s brilliant conclusion in Logan (2017). However, thanks to Hugh Jackman, who recently stated why it won’t disturb the events in the Logan movie, fans now have a better understanding of why this won’t happen.
Hugh Jackman has hinted that time travel will play a significant role in the upcoming Deadpool 3 picture by confirming in a new interview that the events of 2017’s Logan would not be unravelled.
During a new interview with SiriusXM, Hugh Jackman confirmed that Logan’s events will not be unraveled in Deadpool 3 since time travel plays a key part in the story.
“But then I just put it aside and I was like, ‘No, no I’m done.’ And then we made Logan and I was super happy with it. But all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines now we can go back, because, you know, it’s science. And so I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline which was important to me, and I think probably to the fans too.”
When asked how Wolverine is brought back into the tale, Jackman reveals that it has something to do with time travel. This “technology they have in the Marvel realm of shifting about timelines,” as Jackman puts it, will be used in the upcoming Shawn Levy’s Deadpool. Because of this, the film won’t “have to screw with the Logan timeline,” which was really important to him, and he can freely move the story about in time.
Jackman said he was relieved to leave Logan’s role behind, but he explained why he returned to Wolverine. Because of Deadpool, “all [he] could picture was Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in 48 Hours,” and he realised at once that “[this is a] kind of dynamic [audiences] haven’t had before.”
The release date for Deadpool 3 is slated for November 8, 2024.
