Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” IMAX Trailer Debuts Before Avatar 2 Screening

According to a Bloomberg report, Christopher Nolan is set to unveil the first full-length trailer for his next epic “Oppenheimer,” and he plans to do so in the most glorious fashion imaginable: which is a special IMAX placement prior to “Avatar: The Way of Water” theatre screening.

The “Oppenheimer” full trailer will have its world premiere on IMAX screens before showing the “Avatar: The Way Of Water” which opens in theatres on Thursday. This trailer is separate from the one that will play on regular theatre screens and will not be posted online.

A brief teaser for the film was already released on Universal Pictures’ YouTube account and its site which has a creative teaser that plays continuously and includes a countdown to the film’s premiere on July 21, 2023.

“The immersive quality of IMAX is massively important in transporting the audience into the mind and experience of this person who forever altered our world,” Nolan said in a statement to The Associated Press.

Cillian Murphy plays the titular role in Nolan’s film, which is based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning book “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer” by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. The thriller delves into the contradictions of the man who once dubbed himself the “destroyer of worlds.”

The big ensemble also includes Rami Malek, Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, and Kenneth Branagh.

In an interview with Total Film magazine this week, Nolan said that they recreated the Trinity test, the first successful detonation of a nuclear weapon, without the use of CGI. He also said it’s one of the most challenging projects he’s ever undertaken.
