Lovecraft Country's Yann Demange Will Now Direct MCU's Blade

Yann Demange, who directed the pilot episode of HBO's horror series Lovecraft Country, has been appointed to helm MCU's Blade, which continues to be attached to Mahershala Ali.

Moreover, Michael Starrbury, who was nominated for an Emmy for his work on Ava DuVernay's drama When They See Us, has been hired to write a brand new script for the film.

Blade is now under the direction of a new team after losing its original director, Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli), in September. It was a sudden parting of ways due to creative differences. The project was in pre-production and was heading toward a November production start in Atlanta when the separation occurred.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Blade will be a dark and gritty film falling on the edgier side of Marvel fare and possibly even sharing elements with the beloved Blade movies produced by New Line in the early years of the 2000s.

Blade's Production is scheduled to begin in Atlanta in 2023, maintaining Blade's Sept. 6, 2024 release date.
