MCU'S Blade Delayed (Mahershala Ali Is Upset)

It was three years ago that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced the upcoming film Blade, revealing Mahershala Ali will take on the role of the titular vampire hunter Blade at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.

The project, however, doesn't seem to have taken off despite the years passing.

Blade's director, Bassam Tariq, who was hired by Marvel Studios in 2021, has officially resigned one week before filming is scheduled to begin.

Tariq's departure was confirmed by Marvel Studios in the following statement: “Due to continued shifts in our production schedule, Bassam is no longer moving forward as director of Blade but will remain an executive producer on the film,” Marvel told THR in a statement. “We appreciate Bassam’s talent and all the work he’s done getting Blade to where it is.”

Tariq, who will be credited as an executive producer on the movie, shared the following statement about his departure: “Its been an honor working with the wonderful folks at Marvel. We were able to put together a killer cast and crew. Eager to see where the next director takes the film.”

According to THR, Marvel Studios has reportedly begun "search mode" to find a new director for Blade, which was supposed to begin production this Fall.

But It doesn't stop there, according to The Ankler's Jeff Sneider, Blade star Mahershala Ali is frustrated with the lack of progress being made on his solo MCU film. He tweeted "I’m told that the current BLADE script is roughly 90 pages and features exactly TWO (lackluster) action sequences. Mahershala said to be very frustrated with the process. Feige said to be spread too thin. But hey, that’s just what sources are telling me. Don’t shoot the messenger"

Currently, The Direct's sources say writer Beau DeMayo is leading Marvel Studios' overhaul effort for the movie Blade, starting from scratch and writing an entirely new script. DeMayo's work on Moon Knight and in particular X-Men '97 impressed Kevin Feige and other studio executives, prompting them to trust him with rebuilding Blade's story from scratch following Osei-Kuffour's work.

So far, there have been no reports regarding the film's postponement, but it's obvious by now that the film will be delayed considering all the obstacles it has encountered.
