A Live-Action Tarzan Film Is In Development

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony recently purchased the film rights to the character "Tarzan" from Creator Edgar Rice Burroughs' estate as the studio plans to completely reinvent both the character and the intellectual property.

A new take on the character is sought by Sony due to the colonialism, white savior tropes, and racial stereotypes found in the original source material, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As of now, there is no writer, director, or producer attached to the project, according to Deadline.

Did you know?  There was already a live-action Tarzan movie in 2016 called 'The Legend of Tarzan' starring Alexander Skarsgard as Tarzan, Margot Robbie as Jane Porter, and Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, and Djimon Hounsou.
