In a virtual press conference, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters that the end of COVID-19 pandemic is in sight..

Ghebreyesus states We have never been in a better position to end the pandemic.” He said, “ The world needed to step up to "seize this opportunity.  If we don’t take this opportunity now, we run the risk of more variants, more deaths, more disruption, and more uncertainty.”

The statements came in the wake of a falling number of Covid cases that have been reported to be at the lowest mark since March 2020.

However, The WHO has also cautioned against taking a back seat in the fight against covid, since a falling number of cases may be deceptive, since many countries have cut back on testing, which may not be reporting the less severe cases.

In an effort to help countries combat the virus, the WHO released six policy briefs,

"These policy briefs are an urgent call for governments to take a hard look at their policies, and strengthen them for Covid-19 and future pathogens with pandemic potential." WHO said.

"We can end this pandemic together, but only if all countries, manufacturers, communities and individuals step up and seize this opportunity." Added WHO.
